Cousin Love!

We took some time to visit Cousin J and Aunt J on Friday. J is so cute with LWK and loves having "Baby L" around!

Our Little Owl

LWK has discovered his voice in the past week. His favorite sound to make is a "whoooo, whooooo" sound. I guess decorating his nursery with owls and woodland creatures was all part of a greater plan! It has been funny to hear him coo/whoo and make noises that aren't to summon me to him right away. He changes every day and each day I find myself having to stop and marvel at how quickly he has moved from being a newborn to a baby that is excited to interact with his world!

Lunch Dates

J has been working a lot lately, so LWK and I have been taking time to have lunch dates with Daddy! Of course we go to our favorite place (it's kind of like our Cheers, everybody knows our names) and have delicious food (and coffee!) and LWK has an entire kitchen to watch!
He is also venturing into independent land - he REALLY wants to hold his bottle all by himself!

The Great, White, HOT North

LWK became an INTERNATIONAL traveler last week when we went to visit Daddy's family in Eastern Canada. The weather was hot, but LWK was a cool mini-celebrity everywhere that he went. Little old ladies loved him on the plane and every place we visited. He just flashed him that great, gummy grin and easily won any skeptic over!

Grammie and Grampie came from Alberta to meet us and get some time with their grandson!
We started with a visit to Great Uncle Ed and Great Aunt Debbie's home in Nova Scotia. Great Aunt Debbie had a hard time giving him up!
LWK got a sweet Nova Scotia EMT Bear Hug Bear from Madeleine and Erin and lots of loves.
Great Uncle Bill and Great Aunt Liz met us for dinner. LWK LOVED Great Uncle Bill's shirt.
Great, Great Aunt Eleanor showed him how to work the Wii!
Great Grammie fell in complete love with her first Great Grandson.
We took the opportunity for a four generation photo with Great Grammie, Grampie, Daddy and LWK.
LWK helped to cheer up Great Uncle Kevin (and quite a few other patients as well) in the hospital.
Great, Great Aunt Ruby stopped by for a visit.
We had dinner with Great Uncle Danny and Great Uncle Wayne the night before we left.
After being passed around to everyone, LWK had a special surprise for Mommy and Daddy - his first laugh! Daddy was telling him a story about monkeys and LWK just let it belt. Of course now he is withholding that adorable chuckle, but we are sure it will soon be a staple of his charm, much like his bubble-blowing smile!

So what is it about "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and its melodic friends "The ABC Song" and "Baa, Baa Black Sheep?" When LWK gets fussy in the car or before going to bed, all I need to do is sing this Mozart Melody and he calms down. Just now he fell asleep in my arms as I sang it to him. He went from full on "Stone Lip" meltdown to fast asleep in about 5 minutes. No other songs will do. What a sweet little boy we have.

The Stone Lip

There is a trait that is specific to my side of the family - "The Stone Lip." LWK has inherited it. He can go from a sweet look like this:
To "The Stone Lip" in a flash. Notice how he kind of looks like Winston Churchill (as pointed out by a friend)?
And it culminates in a meltdown. This all transpires in seconds.
So in addition to my dimple and blue eyes, he shares "The Stone Lip" with my grandfather, uncles, dad and sister. It's a family tradition!

Tummy Time

So I have a confession, I hate tummy time. And so does LWK. This is the look he gives me:
It is like he is saying "Mom, why must you torture me?" So, much to the chagrin of all mommies I seem to meet, we rarely do it. Hopefully it won't hinder his development. Besides, I like this look from him much better:

The Bumbo

Our boy is getting bigger every day. Today he was able to sit in his Bumbo chair! Most of the pictures were blurry because he was so happy and moving around, but I was able to get a pretty good smile in "sport mode!"

Happy Canada Day and Independence Day!

July brings two celebrations in our home!

On July 1st, we wear Red and White and celebrate all things Canadian:

On July 4th, we add a bit of blue and celebrate American Independence:

3 Months Old

Three Months Old
Two Months Old
One Month Old

LWK has finished his "Fourth Trimester!" He continues to amaze us every day and we feel so blessed to be raising this little boy. All of his newborn clothes have been put away and many of his 0-3 month clothes are too short through his body. Most of his clothes are 3-6 month size.

In the last month, he has continued to smile more often and he is soooooo close to laughing. He is starting to coo and "talk" back to us. He is reaching out for objects like his play rings and "Mortimer the Moose." He has discovered his
hands and loves eating a knuckle sandwich whenever possible. Our boy is strong and loves to practice "standing."

We sing and read to him often. "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and "Patty Cake" are LWK's favorites.

Amazingly, he has been sleeping though the night
for almost the entire last month. Every time I
tell someone that, I am sure that I am jinxing us. He usually goes to bed at about 9pm and wakes up around 7. Now if mom and dad could just go to sleep when he does!
