Playdate!

LWK and I went to visit the Wright family and take them a bit of dinner as they adjust to becoming a family of three!  LWK and KAW played with the bucket, shared snacks, watched a bit of Sesame Street and had fun playing in the grass and watching the neighbor sheep.  The Wrights are getting used to their new normal with such a precious little dude!  We are so happy to have our boys become friends!

The Mountain Goat

LWK finally figured out how to climb up on the couch, so much of our weekend was spent trying to keep him from falling OFF the couch.  He loves watching his cars go over, so I hope he is making connections that things fall off the couch (and mom or dad will pick them up).  I guess it is good he doesn't have a sense of fear... yet.

Herding Cats...

On Sunday afternoon we got together with families from our Parent/Baby class for a BBQ.  It was fun to see all the kiddos - it is so hard to believe that just a year ago we were all meeting and had itty, bitty babies!  A year later, they are toddlers and LWK (being one of the oldest) is one of the only ones not walking! He can crawl so quickly, I don't think he has much incentive to walk.  However, he does like using his walking toys and it a super fast cruiser!  We tried to get a photo of all the babies, but it was a bit like herding cats:

Kate and LWK refused to be far from their respective moms.

Once I stopped trying to make LWK sit down on the grass, he was all smiles!

Our Little Linus

LWK has never really had a lovey, even though we have tried giving him things like a small blanket or toy.  Just like nursing and a pacifier, he just refused in his stubborn way.  So it has been funny in the last week or so he has been taking his swaddle blanket and balling it up like a pillow under his head at night.  This morning, after his nap, I walked in to find him with EVERY SINGLE BLANKET that we kept in a basket near his crib IN his crib.

I can't find any credible advice about when a toddler can have a pillow (a small one, mind you).  Some things say not until they are 3, other people say a small one is fine.  I think I will just be going with my mommy instinct here and either make or buy him a small pillow.  I have remnants of the fabric from his nursery decor and I think I could make a little pillowcase that will match his room since we don't have the crib skirt on anymore.

Welcome Home Kennedy!

Today LWK and I welcomed Gabrielle, Cary and their son Kennedy home from Thailand.  Gabrielle and Cary left for Thailand 16 days beforehand after having been matched with Kennedy since October of 2010.  It has been a long journey for everyone and we are so happy that Kennedy is finally home.  You can read more about their journey here: http://carygabriellewright.wordpress.com/.

It was an honor to be a part of your homecoming, Kennedy!  You are such a blessing to everyone who has held you in their hearts over the last year and a half.  LWK and I can't wait to have a play date!

Boys and Their Toys

LWK LOVES anything with wheels!  These photos are all within about a 15 minute time span this evening!  What a busy boy!

Of course there are cars...

And trucks....
And planes....
And sometimes you just need two cars!!!

Sunday, Sunday

After a few weeks of beautiful weather here in the PNW, we had a rainy Sunday today.  We slept in a bit and went to brunch at Pomegranate.  The manager stopped to talk to us and she was saying how whenever they went on vacation, her son would come home and make all these developmental strides.  It hasn't been any different with LWK this week.  He is able to make it up and down the stairs now.  His feet have grown in the last couple of weeks (which made me freak out at yesterday's show sale a bit), he learned to climb on his reading chair to reach the knickknacks on our shelves downstairs, he has pretty much grown out of size 12 month size clothes, we have bought size 4 diapers, he refuses to take a bottle at daycare anymore, he is starting to give hugs, he has figured out how to stack all of his rings on the rainbow stacker, he double fists rolling his cars (one in each hand!), he figured out how to make his singing puppy play music, he started putting his Little people into their airplane, he learned how to drink out of a straw, he will only take one nap at daycare (at the same time as the big kids) and he figured out how to open the bottom three drawers in the kitchen.  What a busy boy (and tired parents)!

Notice those cute argyle shoes from Grammie K!

SEE LWK Run

Sometimes as a mom you do silly things.  Like stand in line for over an hour to get into the See Kai Run warehouse sale for kid shoes kind of silly.  Thank goodness I had Becky to keep me company and enable me to buy some really adorable shoes for LWK!  It's crazy to think that I am now buying shoes for him with the thought about how well he will be able to walk in them (when the time comes).  The deals were great -  50% - 75% off for shoes that normally run $40 - $50 a pop! We scored 6 pair of shoes and socks for LWK  in sizes 5 and 6 and AGM got some cute "go with everything" shoes too!  LWK is just getting into the 5s and I was reading that kids usually go through about 2 shoe sizes a year at this age.  It was hard not to buy even more ahead, but I have a hard time imagining LWK being more than a size or two bigger in both clothes and shoes than he is now. Hopefully these shoes will see us through to the next SKR sale next May!

I got a few duplicates in both sizes.  The little blue shoes are just cute (and sometimes it can be hard to find blue shoes) and the brown loafers were just too precious to not have for fall AND winter next year!

The Stair Master

Right before we left for Hawaii, LWK figured out how to get UP the stairs.  He must have been thinking about how to get down all week because when we returned home, he was able to go up and down.  He is even able to go down leading with either his left or right foot!  I love how careful but confident he is!

Mother's Day

This was my second Mother's Day, but last year I was in a bit of a daze and didn't even get one photo of me as a new mom, even though we went to Salish for breakfast with a 5 week old LWK.  We got in late last night from Hawaii, but we went to brunch at Pomegranate this afternoon.  So nice to spend a day with my boys in one of our favorite places.  I am so blessed.

The Road to Hana

Grammie and Grampie babysat our last night in Hawaii, so J and I decided to take a drive.  We ended up on the northeast side of Maui and it was so much more the kind of place we imagined Maui to be.  The foliage was green and lush and there was a nice, cool breeze.  We took a part of the road to Hana, just to The Garden of Eden.  It was full of twists, turns and one lane bridges that made us hold our breath.  The Charger did a pretty good job despite its size and general boat-like feel.  We missed the Garden of Eden, it closes at 4pm, but the drive was worth it just to see the nicer part of the island (in our humble opinion).

On the way back to Lahaina, we stopped at the lookout to Ho'okipa Beach where the surfers were trying their hand at the waves.

All those dots are surfers waiting for the big one.
This guy caught a good wave!
The sunset was gorgeous!
It was just nice to spend the evening together.

The Beach, Second Try

We went to the beach again this morning, hoping that LWK would like it more.  He didn't.  But we were prosthelytized to - the older gentleman thought we would be okay since we had named our son Luke.  Thank goodness we didn't say we named him Luke after the Star Wars character just for argument's sake!
It's a little cold, mom.

Yeah, I'm not putting my feet back in.

This is better....

Dad, why do you let her torture me????

Maui Ocean Center and a Luau

Thursday was the day for going to the Maui Ocean Center!  It was fun to see all the different, brightly colored fish and marine life that are native to Hawaii.  We got to see sharks and learned that shark teeth are made for their specific kind of prey, so most won't harm humans (darn you, Jaws for thinking all sharks are out to get us).  We checked out the turtles and learned about the coral reefs.  So fun!

We went to a luau at the Westin on the beach.  Another rain squall threatened our first course - only Mom and LWK headed for cover while Grammie, Grampie, uncle Josh and Aunt Steph braved the elements.  The food was fun to try - LWK liked the chicken and Dad tried Poi (not too much of a hit).  LWK, every the social trooper was fine with a flower in his hair and did not want to fall asleep and miss out on the action.  The big finale was fire!

Practicing pointing with Grammie.

Table drumming with Uncle Josh and Aunt Steph

In Maui, it's okay for boys to wear flowers, right?

Hula dancers!

Fire!

Wednesday Wedding Day!

Today was the big day - Uncle Josh and Aunt Steph's wedding!  The K family all met for lunch at Leilani's on the Beach.  Mom had a fruity drink (she has had lots of them on this trip).  LWK rejected turkey and cheese and stuck to his goldfish crackers.

The wedding was at 5:15pm at Merriman's overlooking the beach at Kapalua.  A handsome groom, a beautiful bride, 17 guests, a ukulele player and a bit of a rain squall for good luck!  LWK was a bit fussy during his first wedding, so Mom and he watched from afar.  Dinner was yummy, the cake was red velvet.  LWK passed out (with a bit of coaxing) before the main course was served.

Congratulations Uncle Josh and Aunt Steph!

Tuesday in Maui

Dad was feeling better, but we still stuck close to the condo today.  J and Uncle Josh had some guy time before the big wedding day and enjoyed fish tacos and Shave Ice!  Uncle Josh had fun with LWK (and vice versa)!

We went to dinner, just our little family, at a great Sushi place called Sensai.  The waiter was so careful about any nut worries and we had an amazing dinner.  My favorite was the "Yellow Submarine."  LWK, he had some edemame but mostly enjoyed flirting with the lady behind us!

LWK's new trick - blowing INTO the food pouches.  What a silly boy!

Lazy Monday in Maui

We stayed pretty close to the condo on Monday.  J had a reaction to nuts at dinner on Sunday night so we got to check out the hospital here on Maui while Luke got to be loved on by Grammie and Grampie and soon-to-be Aunt Steph.  I took a walk on the beach while LWK took a nap and J rested.  I don't think we even took any photos today, that is how low-key we were.  Grammie and Grampie come over for dinner and played with LWK - happily singing "The ABC Song" over and over and over and over....

The Beach

On Sunday we took LWK to the beach for the first time.  Our fair-skinned boy was well slathered in SPF 50000000 sunscreen and we tried to keep him in the shade.  Mom got a little pink, but not Luke-a-licious!

This sand is..... interesting.

I'm more interested in the waves.

Here comes one!!!!

Yeah, maybe I don't like this whole beach thing too much.....

Aloha!

We arrived in Maui for Uncle Josh and soon-to-be Aunt Steph's wedding on Saturday afternoon.  LWK was a great flyer - he took two naps and flirted incessantly with the other passengers.  Once we got to our condo, he loved the view and finding things for us to babyproof.

Even though mom and dad felt a bit haggard, he was all smiles, of course!

We ended the evening with this beautiful rainbow.  It was like Hawaii was saying, "hello, welcome to our beautiful islands!"

Movin' On Up

Well, LWK figured out how to get up the stairs.  Not just those first few, all the way up to the top floor!  Now to work on getting him back down.
Climbin'

Are you watching???

I'm pretty cute, I know.

Made it to the top!

13 Months Old!

Has it really been a month since LWK's first birthday????  The weather has been nice for the most part, so it has been fun to be out and about as a family now that everything is "the second time around" now.  It is hard to believe just a year ago we were loving on a teeny, tiny baby and worrying every time we took him out to the big scary world!

This month:

  • LWK has probably surpassed that 21lbs mark.
  • He is really getting into the 12 - 18 month size clothes
  • He has 8 teeth - when he smiles it looks like he has a mouth full of teeth!
  • He has found "turbo mode" in his crawling.  He is crusing pretty fast too.  I keep thinking he will walk, but since he can get wherever he wants so fast, I don't think there is a big incentive for him to really try!
  • He stood for a few moments - he had pieces of a cracker in each hand and didn't know what to do!
  • I have decided to not freak out as much about the food he is eating (especially since the cat food incident).  This month he has had pineapple (didn't like), tomatoes (didn't like), mac and cheese (undecided), pudding with cool whip (liked), biscuits with jam (liked) a DQ ice cream cone (LOVED IT!) and other random things that I may be eating and let him try with varying success.
  • He has learned to suck on a straw!  This has come in handy now that he will drink milk out of a straw and can suck down the fruit and veggie pouches on the go!
  • He still loves anything with wheels!
  • He waves "bye, bye" sometimes
  • He can blow kisses
  • He rode on a swing for the first time
  • He had his first haircut (a little clean up in the back ala Aunt Julie)
  • He likes having his teeth brushed (or at least the taste of the bubble gum toothpaste)
  • He still loves to unpack baskets and drawers, but he is starting to like putting things back in too
  • He has started putting things in his dumptruck, driving it around and dumping things out
  • He still likes to bang things together - he even did it with his pincer grasp with cheerios the other day
