Crafting: Attempt #2

Since Monday's attempt at making Valentines didn't go so well, I tried a different "technique" tonight.  Maybe LWK isn't a stamping kind of guy.  Maybe he takes more after artists like Jackson Pollack....

I gathered up supplies - paint, pizza boxes from last weekend, some heart doilies that I bought last February but didn't get around to using, some small "things" and masking tape.

I taped the doilies to the box, put some dollops of pink, purple and white paint and dropped in the "things."

I sealed up the box with masking tape.

And gave the box to LWK to go hog wild with.  I thought he would like the sound it made when he was shaking it, but he just wanted to throw it.

After a few rounds of the "throw the pizza box" game, this is the result:

Spattered hearts for Valentine's Day.  Jackson Pollack, I think you would be proud!

This project was inspired by Hands On: We Grow's website and project that she did with her toddler.  She has fun ideas to do with little ones that aren't too messy - totally my cup of tea!

Duck....Duck.....

Goose!

This is LWK's favorite new game.  We weren't sure if it was a coincidence last night when he was playing with his cars and saying duck, duck, goose, but this morning he was saying it in the car and would get quite upset if I was the one to call goose!  I asked at daycare this morning if they had been playing it and she said it is one of the children's favorite games!

The Reluctant Artist

After our fun play date with the Morks yesterday, LWK and I got down to some crafting.  This was LWK's first try at an art project other than the salt ornaments we made his first Christmas.  He just needed not to freak out for that one, this time I expected him to go hog-wild and participate.  LWK was interested for about 2 minutes, not at all enough time to actually get all the Valentines done that need to be sent soon.  I thought he would like the dipping in paint and stamping on paper, but as soon as he touched the paint, he was done with the whole mess.  We got one paper done, so we will have to come up with another plan for Valentine's Day!  He is pretty adorable stripped down and in his art smock though!

The Indoor Playground

I worked through most of my lunches last week so that I could have today's "grading day" off.  If my grades were completed, I didn't have to go in to work today and I could spend the day with LWK and the Mork girls!  I think that was an excellent incentive to get everything done before I left work on Friday!

The girls headed our way this time and we went to the community center's indoor playground for the under 5 set.  I hadn't ever paid attention to the center in the past even though I had gone to the farmer's market in the summer.  It is kind of a fun building that looked a bit lodge-like.  Perfect for a community center in the foothills of the Cascades!  Once we arrived and watched the 3 year old ballet class, we found out that no one had shown up to set up the indoor playground in the gym.  I guess that they forgot?  Overslept?  Cancelled and didn't let anyone know?  Thanks to some enterprising moms who needed to let their toddlers run, we had the balls out, the basketball hoop up and a few mats out.  The kids didn't care that it wasn't as formal as usual (and our kiddos didn't know the difference), so they had a great time running, making baskets and kicking balls.

LWK and AGM negotiating about who has ball possession!

Of over 500 photos, this is one of the least blurry action shots!  LWK moves FAST!

Love this profile.

ERM happily slept through most of the event, until the end when she had fun watching what the big kids were doing.  I was holding her and I got to see that LWK does have a bit of a jealous streak when it comes to mom holding babies!

I love that LWK crosses his ankles like this in his stroller and when he is in his high chair!
Afterwards, we headed to the outlet mall for some good clearance rack deals - I picked up a winter coat  for next year (and possible even the next year since it was a 2T/3T and the sizes run big) for LWK from Gymboree and a couple of shorts and shirts for the summer.  We stopped for a little lunch and coffee and the kiddos were pretty cute!

Lunch!
We came back to our house so the kids could play a bit.  The kitchen was a hit as were the slide, puzzles and rocking moose.  And of course, snack time!

Snack time!
It was so worth giving up lunch this week to have a day to play with these adorable little poeple!

Patiently Waiting

We went to breakfast (well, it turned into brunch) this morning and we had to wait for a table.  LWK was such a big kid, he happily sat with dad and played his straw game.  I just can't get over how fast he is growing up!

And I tried a new app on my iPhone for this photo - Hipstamatic.  It is kind of fun and feels a bit old school - like sliding the toggle to turn on the flash.  Kind of fun for an impromptu photo!

Big Shoes to Fill

This morning I went to a preschool fair to check out the local preschools in our area.  (I know, I can't believe I am already thinking about preschool for my not-even-2-year-old).  While I was checking out some pretty cool looking and fun programs for a year or more down the road, J and LWK were having a grand time at home.  As you know, LWK has big feet, but not quite big enough to fit Daddy's shoes.  Yet.  Give him a couple of years!

The Dare Devil

LWK was having way too much fun tonight when we got home from school.  He is no longer content just to slide down the slide like a normal child.  He now needs to climb, stand and wave like he is a gymnast about to do an Olympic routine!  And then go down head first...

The Olympian!
Is Matchbox Car Racing an Olympic sport?
The slide is a great racetrack!
Must go headfirst after my Porsche!

Dear Uncle Jim

Dear Uncle Jim,

Thank you for sharing your love of education, history, the arts and books with our family.  I still have the dictionary you gave me when I started reading, the entire set of Little House on the Prairie books and the set of Anne of Green Gables on the top shelf in our office.  They have been packed, unpacked and displayed in every place that I have lived.  As an adult, I have drug my friends to the "Banks of Plum Creek," Minnesota and made J take me on the Anne of Green Gables tour on our honeymoon.

You took me to see the Nutcracker ballet as a little girl and I still have the Nutcracker you gave me - it comes out every Christmas and sits on my mantel.  Someday I want to go to Russia because of the Matryoshka doll you brought back for me from your trip to Moscow.  I loved visiting you on the East Coast when I was 12 and you were living in Philadelphia and we saw the cherry blossoms in Washington DC.  My favorite memory, though, is that you took me to see Annie when I was 5.  At intermission, you took me to the orchestra pit and I told you that when I grew up, I wanted to do that!  Who knew that 15 years later, I actually would be a musician and play the clarinet just like you?

The last time I saw you was last summer.  You hadn't seen LWK since he was a baby.  He was sitting on the floor looking at the book "Oh My, Oh My, Oh Dinosaurs!" and you smiled at me with pride and said "I think we have a reader."  Yes, Uncle Jim, our boy is a reader just like you and me.

Hug grandma and grandpa for us, we miss you all.

Love,
All of Us

Cousin Love

LWK and I went and spent MLK/Inauguration Day with my parents today. J and I have both lost uncles in the past few days and I just wanted to be close to family while J was at work today.  The bonus was that the cousins were visiting Grandma and Grandpa too!

Such Seattle boys, working on their computers...

The best photo I could get of all three boys!

LWK really looks up to his big cousin!  Joel just wants to watch Curious George!
The boys were quite busy, but so much fun!

The Attitude Adjustment

J had to work today, so LWK and I were on our own.  He was really fun this morning, but after his nap he just was so discontent, I didn't know what to do with him.  The weather has been beautiful, but cold, so we bundled up and headed to the toddler park for an attitude adjustment!

Running!

Climbing!
LWK had a great time and I was so proud of him for going down the slide ALL BY HIMSELF for the first time.  Actually, one of the first times he went down today, he slid off the end and was upset, so it made me even more proud that he got back up there and do it again.  I love his tenacity!

First time successfully going down a slide ALL BY HIMSELF!

Running some more!

The whole park all to himself!
Unfortunately, when we first got to the park I slipped on the ice and fell two times!  Obviously, this Seattle girl doesn't know how to deal with ice.  I am pretty sore tonight, so I hope I can keep up with him tomorrow for MLK day.

We also figured out why LWK was so unhappy tonight, he is teething again.  He didn't want to eat much this afternoon/evening and when J brushed his teeth, his toothbrush was bloody.  He was almost completely inconsolable as we got him ready for bed, so we gave him some Tylenol and hope that he will be able to sleep tonight and that those teeth finish breaking through.  Seriously, will this teething thing EVER be over???  His one year molars are still coming through and I just found out that he should be getting two year molars soon!  Poor little guy...

Hockey Is Back!!!

LWK is leaping for joy that hockey is back, bless his little half-Canadian heart!  Go Oilers (tomorrow, mommy messed up and dressed him for the game today)!

The Kiss

LWK INSISTED that he get to wear his cute owl hat from Uncle Josh and Aunt Steph tonight when he was playing!
Love those cars and the owl hat!

He also wanted to kiss the camera.  Sorry for the blurry shots, he was just too darn cute to try and stage the whole thing!

He is so adorable when he decides he wants to give a kiss, and I know it won't last forever.  I don't even mind the smudged camera lens!

Bath Time

Just a normal night at home.  J worked late and LWK and I played, had dinner and got ready for bed.  I realized that I haven't taken many bath photos of LWK.  He had fun playing with his new road bath stickers from the Keatons and loved talking about the "cool cars," trucks and choo choo trains!

A choo choo train!

Ahhhh, that smile!

Look at all my toys!

He is compelled to blow bubbles!

And after his bath, we realized that Baby and GaGo were downstairs.

I still can't believe that he can go down the stairs all by himself.

Baby and GaGo are found!

So coy reading "Wow, said the Owl!"
