Grandma's Birthday

We celebrated Grandma's birthday on Saturday.  We had a fun time at the Museum of Flight (on a free Smithsonian sponsored day!) and had lunch and dinner with Grandma and the cousins.

In front of Air Force One - this is the plane flown into China!

Visitors!

The Guncles from NYC (formerly from Amsterdam) came to visit this weekend.  They had a busy trip, but they made time to see LWK and we were able to go to brunch at Pomegranate.  Last time they saw LWK in December, he was still a baby and now he is a busy toddler.  He still does love to bounce and charm, but now he is running around, talking and eating real food!  Thanks for making time for us, guys!

The Roses

When we got home tonight, I spent some time weeding and LWK spent time playing in the back yard.  He was intrigued with what was in my bucket and he took out the roses I had trimmed.  It is so fun to watch how he played with them!  I would love to know what he is thinking sometimes.

Rescuing the roses mom was throwing away.
Carefully placing the rescued roses in his cart.
Taking the roses for a stroll.
Carefully laying them on the walkway.
Realizing the petals come off!   Once he took them all off, the roses weren't any fun to play with.

St. Francis

We have this statue of St. Francis in our back yard.  We aren't Catholic, but I have always liked that St. Francis is the patron saint of animals and the environment and that he is credited with creating the first Nativity scene (you know, aside from the real Nativity scene).  It is kind of fitting that St. Francis is standing right next to our first Christmas tree that we planted in our back yard!

Checking out St. Francis.

Look, I'm taller than him!

There is his nose!

And there is LWK's ear!

Future Goalie?

LWK loves all balls, but especially soccer balls.  He and J were playing in the backyard this evening.  I think LWK will be a goalie because he sure loves to throw that ball!

The Little Dipper

LWK has learned the joy of dip.  He can't get enough of dipping crackers into hummus (or mamus as he calls it) and bananas into yogurt.  Gotta love our little dipper!

The dip!
The open up!
The lick!

The Kleptomaniac

Call the cops, my kid is a kleptomaniac.

I picked him up from childcare and he was happy to see me and happy to be lifted up.  This is a bit unusual since he usually wants to keep playing with the other kids and whatever car contraption he is fascinated with.  We made it out to the car and as I was putting him in his car seat, I noticed that he was keeping his fist tightly clenched.  And he was smiling.  Big.  He offered his hand to me and when I opened it, he had a little, palm sized car.

LWK was so proud of himself and now i see my sweet little boy as a future jailbird. I should probably make a PSA four our neighborhood about his stealing abilities as related to cars before he learns how to hotwire the real ones and his feet reach the pedals!

The Eater

LWK is a pretty good eater most of the time.  He is especially fascinated with anything we are eating.  This hasn't been such a good thing when he wants some super garlicky chicken or hummus, but he has survived all those debacles.

He loves bananas and loves to yell "nana" in the store when he sees them.  He likes yogurt, frozen peas, mango, pears, non-garlicky hummus, black beans, corn, waffles, pancakes, eggs, cheese, rice, chicken (sometimes), crackers, applesauce, peaches, nectarines, most berries and pretty much anything that mom or dad is eating and trying to enjoy!

My favorite thing with food that he has learned to do is blow on it too cool it down!
Blowing on the roast beef to cool it down!

When all else fails, he loves having a fruit and veg squeezie - especially when he gets to hold it.

The Rubber Duckies

Well, it is obvious that school has started back up - posting always seems to be pretty sparse in September!  I am enjoying being full time at one school again and I have really nice kiddos - especially those 7th graders who come up to me each day and thank me for being a great teacher.  I need to teach LWK to do that for his teachers each day because it seriously brightens every afternoon when I hit my daily slump.

LWK is LOVING childcare this year.  He probably liked it last year, but his lack of mobility probably cramped his enjoyment a bit.  This year he can keep up with the big boys, play with every car and ball they have and lay on the ground playing with the little kids too!  He comes home happy and a bit exhausted every day!

I haven't even been taking photos the last week or so, but I got a few today with LWK in his usual afternoon mode - playing with cars, trying to shut himself and his toys in the door and carrying his bathtub ducks around!  Never a dull moment with this cutie!

Getting ready to race!  I love how he crouches down!

The Talker!

LWK is starting to talk more and more.   Dada is still his favorite, but he loves to beep his nose and say "wow" too!

17 Months Old

As the summer is coming to an end, it is amazing to think about how much LWK has changed.  No more baby, he is all little boy!  Can you believe how big he has gotten from his one month photo?  It still amazes me how quickly this is all flying by!
LWK 17 Months Old
LWK 1 Month Old

Height:  He has really lengthened out - at least 33 inches I would say.  His legs have caught up to the rest of his body!

Weight:  Most definitely over 24 lbs.  The way he has been eating lately, maybe even 25lbs.

Clothing Size:  18 months and some 24 month in tops.  It still works best when he has pants with adjustable waists, he is a skinny guy!

Shoes:  We bought shoes for him in the middle of June in size 5.  By the beginning of August, he had grown out of them!  He has a bit of a range in size shoes right now.  Converse are size 5 and a little big yet, Stride Rites are size 6 and his See Kai Runs are tight in the size 5s.  Good things he has a cute younger nephew who will get to have all the shoes he only wore for a few weeks before outgrowing them!

Diaper size:  4s, but I am happy to say we did a lot of cloth diapering this summer.  It isn't as convenient during the school year for our day care provider, but I figure it helps the earth and is far cuter on the weekends and on breaks.

Teeth:  I could feel the prong of a molar this morning so that means he has 9 teeth!  He has only been a drooly mess since June - his gums have been killing him!

He is loving "Chicka Chicka, Boom Boom!"

Food:  He is eating mostly big kid food.  He had corn on the cob for the first time this month as well as ham, pesto and hummus.  He still occasionally likes the squeezable purees for on the go, but I feel like I just keep packing him more and more food when we are out and about.

Bottles:  2 - 3.  One when he gets up and one when he goes to bed are the consistent ones and sometimes one when he takes his nap.  I don't think he gets a nap one when he is at daycare, but we like to cuddle this toddler as much as we can before he doesn't want to be cuddled anymore!

Movement:  Walking - forwards and backwards.  Climbing.  Spinning.  Riding scooters/bikes, Slides.  he loves to imitate what we do - brush his hair, brush his teeth, eat out of a bowl.

Talking:  Mama, Dada, Nana (banana), WaWa, Baba (for Ba, Ba Black sheep), Moo, Bye- Bye, Duck, Outside,Vroom for cars, Sicky (sticky for pokey trees), Bup (up), Bampa (Grandpa), Yeah, Dah (yes or there), Wow, Uhoh, Uh-huh and when he does something like jump he "counts" with uh, ooh, EEEE!
I love that he does this squat thing when he reads or plays!
What a way to get a workout in, buddy!

Funny Things:  He likes to walk around with his thumbs in the waistband of his pants.  He is starting to spin around just for fun. When we walk into his room in the mornings, he says "uhoh" like he is getting caught at something!  He isn't afraid of water AT ALL. I am afraid he will go head first into the bathtub at any time!
