Happy Easter!

Shhhhhhh, don't tell anyone, but the weather has been absolutely gorgeous here in Seattle!  We like to have people think it rains here 365 days a year.  Today is was sunny and 70.  Perfect for an Easter Egg hunt in our backyard!  LWK wasn't sure what to think about the whole thing, but liked the yogurt covered raisins en lieu of real candy.  He also got some Hot Wheels and socks from the Easter Bunny (thanks Grampie and Daddy)!
So I just drop this plastic egg in here, huh?
Unhappy Easter Bunny.....

They make froggie eggs???
Pure Joy!
Success!  Now I get it!
This expression is priceless!

Backyard Fun

LWK got an early birthday gift from Grammie and Grampie - a play structure with a climbing wall and slide and LWK LOVES it!  The box has been sitting in our living room for about a week and everytime he would walk by, he would look at the pictures.  Grammie and Grampie arrived yesterday from Canada and today J and Grampie got to work putting it together!

Grampie and Dad hard at work!
Or just having fun???
Playing peek-a-boo with Grammie.
And Grampie.
And jumping!
LWK is a pretty happy kiddo - I have a feeling this will get lots of use over the next year!
Notice that he decided to go out without shoes???  He was just too excited once he realized there was something new to check out!

Hello Spring!

We had a glimpse of spring this weekend, but it was still a bit chilly since LWK was getting over a bug.    I guess he and the other children his age spent all morning playing outside at daycare.  She had to bribe them to come back in!  Today it was 61 on the way home, it didn't rain and our lawn is freshly mown, so I decided to turn LWK loose after we found his boots (he didn't want to wear real shoes for some reason)!
Always with the two cars (or trucks in this case)!
He loves tromping on the pavers.
Could those red galoshes be any sweeter?
The sand table is going to get a great workout this spring and summer.
It is going to be fun to see him really get to play outdoors this summer - he is a busy kiddo!

The Busy Body!

LWK is better, thank goodness!  Yesterday he stayed home with J and had a pretty low key day with a very bland diet.  He didn't eat tons, but what he did eat stayed down.  He was a bit less energetic and took a really good nap in the afternoon.  By the time I got home from my contest, he was far more himself.

Today, he was back to his usual energetic ways.  We headed out to brunch but the place was hoppin', so it took us much longer than usual to get in, LWK was a bit impatient and we were pulling out all the stops to entertain him.

Looking at the pictures with dad.  He likes to find the chickens.
Smelling the flowers.  He doesn't like to get too close,
but always closes his eyes and takes a big sniff!
Touching the flowers outside, he says they are "sticky!"
Practicing opening and closing the lid to his water bottle.
Reading about fire trucks with Daddy.
When we went to leave, he was all about the front seat again.
Now he wants to put on the seatbelt!  Safety first, son!
We are so happy to have our healthy boy back and he is sure giving us a run for our money today!  And yes, he still has a little bit of a black eye over a week after his initial "rocky" moment.  It should be gone in time for his birthday, I hope...

The Sicky

Well, we had a good run of almost 2 years of no vomiting from LWK.  Yes, there was the 6 months of crazy spitting up and the occasional "My molars are killing me and I must try to put both my hands in my mouth"induced gagging after a lot of water, but not the real deal.

The one day that I didn't have my phone in my pocket is when our daycare mom sent me a message about LWK vomiting, but that he seemed happy and maybe he just ate too fast.  When I called her 45 minutes later when I finally checked my phone, she said he was napping and had been perfectly happy afterwards, but there had been a bug going through all the kids.

I left school as soon as I could to go pick him up and he seemed perfectly fine.  He was great on the car ride home, happily singing the ABCs as I talked to grandma about his upcoming birthday party.  When we got home, he didn't want a snack or even water.  He didn't really want to play with anything, and I thought if he was a bit under the weather, maybe he should just be calm, so I let him watch some Calliou and Sesame Street.  He kept crawling in my lap, not getting comfortable, moving to the couch, then his reading chair and back to me pretty much all evening long.  He didn't eat much dinner (just applesauce) but drank a full bottle of milk after his bath and went down pretty sweetly.

J worked late and he got home at about 9:30.  As I was filling him in about the day's happenings, LWK started crying and when we got up there, he had been sick all over his bed.  I think being sick freaked him out more than anything, poor little guy.  We got him, his bed and his room cleaned up and J rocked him back to sleep. Obviously, this was not a scene I needed to capture of a photo of.

The boys are on their own while I am at band contest tomorrow, hopefully this was a single incident and he will be back to normal tomorrow.  I will be leaving saltines, applesauce and bananas for snacks and checking my phone every 10 minutes. This was definitely not one of my favorite LWK firsts...

The Driver

LWK has figured out how to climb up into his carseat now that we have turned him forward facing.  It has been nice to not have to wretch my back trying to get him in the seat and he is SOOOO proud of himself when he gets up there.

This afternoon, after I picked him up from daycare, I let him climb up into his seat.  I looked away for just a moment when one of the other moms asked me a question and, like a flash, he was in the front seat of the car.  Again, looking SOOOO proud (and cute).

Nice interior...
I like the sunroof...
I might need to lower the wheel a bit...
But I look good, that is all that matters!  I'll take it!

The Shiner, Days 2 and 3

The shiner on LWK's eye has really darkened up.  Poor little guy!  I hope it will start fading by the time he goes back to daycare on Monday!

Even tough guys get a bottle at the end of the day...

Are you done taking pictures of my eye yet, mom???

5 Years

Five years ago today we had a magical wedding day that started with breakfast at Pomegranate and ended at Salish Lodge.  We were surrounded by our closest family and friends, ate Casear Salad (it WAS the Ides of March, you know) and danced to a Jazz Band!

Thank you J for a beautiful day that started a wonderful life together.  We are so very blessed.  I love you more today than yesterday, but not as much as tomorrow....

The Bruiser

Our poor daycare mom, I think LWK is going to give her a heart attack.  When I picked him up after school today, she was standing at the door waiting for me so she could tell me what happened before I saw him.  Yesterday, he crawled under something and scratched his back up pretty well and today he went bum over tea kettle and face first into the truck that had gotten away from him.  He was left with a pretty good shiner under his left eye.  I just keep telling her that boys will be boys and LWK is becoming pretty fearless when it comes to running, jumping, crawling and climbing!

It is actually darker in real life, the overcast day did nice things to his skin in the photo.  I guess we should just be happy that this didn't happen the day before his birthday, or the day before his 2 year doctor appointment!

Obviously, it didn't slow him down today when we got home.  He loved making any muddy incline in our backyard a "slide" and playing with his sand table!

Notice the ring of sand around his feet?  I think there is more sand on the ground than in the sand table after this play session!

The Cradle

When LWK stayed with Grandma and Grandpa a few weeks ago, he had a blast playing with a little wicker cradle to put his baby, Ga-go, Elmo and Cookie Monster to bed and cover them up.  When I was cleaning last weekend, I found a little cradle that I had bought for baby shower decor a few years ago that I never really used.  LWK thought it was a tractor and wanted to play with it, but he soon realized it was a little cradle and put his duck and his Clifford to bed and covered them up with my dish towel.  He even tells me to "shhhhhh" so they could sleep!  So sweet - he will be a good Daddy someday!

Clifford and Duck!
Night, night time!
They need a blankie!
Be very, very quiet.
Later, I found that he put his truck to bed too.

The Puzzle Master

LWK loves playing with puzzles.  He does a great job with them - even with his ABC and 123 puzzles.  But this one, matching the color of each fish with the same colored tail, hasn't been one of LWK's favorites.  Tonight he started playing with it and he was putting the wrong colored tail on the fish, shaking his head and saying "nooooooo," then laughing as he matched the tail with the correct fish.  I love his developing sense of humor!

Notice he is putting the yellow tail on the green fish?

Ahhhhhh, yes, this is the right way!

LWK has been calling his stuffed elephant "Ga-Go" from the get go.  Although we do say "elephant" when we see one in a book, etc., he has always said Ga-Go.  Tonight as I was taking the tags of his new PJs (his 24 month PJs are getting a little tight in the body and small in the foot), I was asking him what was on each pair.  He got cars (of course), owls and ELEPHANTS!  So maybe we have turned a corner that he knows what an elephant IS, but his elephant's name is Ga-Go!

I also caught him playing with his little people airplane today making flying noises and waving it over his head.  I love that he is starting to act out his imagination!

Also, did you know that wearing your jammies, rainboots and raccoon mittens is all the rage in toddler world?  Neither did I!

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest means lots of playing inside on all those rainy days.  When there is a break in dreary weather, kids are sent outside to get those wiggles out!  My sister and I practically LIVED in our sandbox and playhouse as kids in the 80s due to the "if it's not raining, you're playing outside" rule.

LWK's daycare is no exception, if it isn't raining the kids are playing outside.  I guess this is a bit of a rarity anymore since there is so much litigation if a kid would fall and get a skinned knee, etc., but I am so glad that she does this with the kids.  LWK LOVES being outside and hates to come in on nice (or even not so nice) days.

When we got home from school today, there was some blue sky.  Since LWK had left his shoes on in the car for once, I threw out a couple of balls, a riding toy and his orange truck for him to play with.  He had so much fun and the lush green background from all our rain made a wonderful backdrop!  And having a cute kiddo doesn't hurt either.

Woohoo!  I climbed up here myself!
Must kiss gnomie.
Gnomie needs some new scenery, he can hang out by the roses.
He is so my kiddo.  He wants to take his shoes off when we get home,
even if it is in the middle of the muddy backyard.
My child, the model.  Thank you awesome camera.....

Sheep Say Baaaa, Really!

Today we got to celebrate KW's first American Birthday as he turned 3 years old!  The neighbors behind the Wright family have sheep and LWK was FASCINATED!  The best part was when the sheep actually said "baa-aa"to LWK and he looked at us with a face that said "Wow, mom and dad, you were right, they DO say baa!"

Look!  Sheep!
He was so gentle when he pet the sheep.  Maybe he will be a veteranarian when he grows up!

The birthday boy and LWK chillin' at the table!
