One Photo Weekend

We headed up to Bellingham for one last family weekend of summer before I head back to work.  We ate yummy food (crepes, anyone?),  Mom got the best pedicure EVER, we checked out a neat baby/kid shop, took a walk to Boulevard Park, spent time in the bookstore and took a nice, long family nap.  And with all that, I only took one photo.  It was kind of nice just to be in the moment, loving my little family.  We are so lucky.
Not a great photo of me, but LWK and Jer are cute!

The "Cymbals"

Again, destined to be a drummer I fear!

The Play Area

We headed to the Zoo with AGM and Becky yesterday.  LWK is starting to actually see and get excited about the animals!  His favorite?  The Elk!  They had a kids indoor play area so the kiddos could run around.  The lighting was horrible but LWK and AGM had fun!

Banging on the drums, of course.

Spinning the puzzle!

AGM and LWK shaking the eggs!

Little boys and Converse sneakers - LOVE!

The Maid

LWK wants to do everything we have been doing. This must mean that I have been cleaning a lot lately!

The Farm!

We met up with our parent/baby class friends today at the Kelsey Creek Farm Park.  It is hard to believe that these cuties were just 4 months old a year ago!
Our babies, now toddlers!

Checking out the cows!

The farm boys chatting about the barns, or the John Deere....

I can't get enough photos of him walking, it is just so sweet!

The swing was a hit!

The Slide

LWK is becoming quite the daredevil!  Today we went to a park after brunch and he wasn't at all afraid of the slide.  Especially when Daddy is there to catch him!

I may be brave, but I can still carry my owl with me.

I'm a big boy!
Here we go!
Don't mind the crazy hair...
Good catch, dad!
Future (See Kai Run) model?

The Stairs/Slide

LWK is great at going up the stairs, but still a little cautious going down.  We have been working on going down with him holding our hand and the wall and he is pretty good at it.  However, that requires that mom or dad help him and a busy toddler doesn't always have time for that!

The Water Park

The weather has been super hot for Seattle (upper 90s!).  We have been doing our best to stay cool and today we went to a kid water park in Bellevue.  LWK had a blast, but mom was a little stressed.  Since it is so hot, there were a lot of kids there.  A lot of big kids.  Big kids who don't watch out for little boys who have only been walking for a month and a half!  I felt like a helicopter mom the whole time, trying to make sure he wasn't trampled.  I am a thankful that LWK is pretty oblivious and when he gets knocked down, he pops right back up.

The park was fun and LWK loved it.  We started off by this "floating" sphere that had a cool reflection.  He loved touching it and splashing in the water around it.  It was a perfect little kid spot and mom liked that it was easy to corral him!

The area we were playing in also had these neat Orca sculptures that spouted water.

LWK loved the spray of the spout!

Summer is winding down, I only have a week left before I have to go back to work.  I want to enjoy every minute!

The Corn on the Cob

We had dinner at Grandma and Grandpa's tonight and LWK had his first corn on the cob!  Since he is 1/4 Iowa farmer, of course he liked it!

Sheep Says.....

LWK's language skills are starting to take off now that he figured out walking!  Our new favorite is that he is able to tell us what a sheep says!

The Crazy Baby Hair

Sometimes LWK's hair is perfect with a nice little wave to it.  Other days, it looks like this no matter what we do:

Perfect Summer Day

We had a playdate with the cousins on Friday.  It was a perfect day for a Seattle summer.  Mid 70s, sunny, not too hot.  We like to joke that Seattle has two seasons - Fall and August.  Well, August is here and it is BEAUTIFUL!  This is a complete photo dump, but this is how I remember my summers as a little girl - lots of playing in the water and having fun!

The Water Table is Fun!
LWK loved splashing and dumping the water.
The first thing you do in a pool - stomp and splash!
My molars are killing me but I think the sprinkler is pretty cool!
LWK wasn't afraid of the slide!
Doing a fancy, Olympic-style turn halfway down!
A perfect belly-flop splash!
Getting James in on the pool action!
Time to get cozy and have animal crackers for a snack!

The Bed

I spent most of yesterday purging my closet (hello and goodbye clothes from college!) and cleaning our bedroom.  Today, LWK and I spent some time cuddling and playing on our freshly made bed.  Such a sweet boy!

The Rocker

Grandma was inspired by our trip to Bill and Carol's house where LWK enjoyed their (now grown) son's rocking chair.  She got out her rocking chair from when she was a little girl - it is at least 62 years old!  Hopefully she can find the photo of herself as a little girl in the rocker in the flower girl dress from when she was in her oldest brother's wedding!  LWK loved reading "My, Oh My, Oh Dinosaurs!" as he rocked away!

First Dentist Visit and Little Mr. Sunshine!

Such a busy day yesterday!  LWK had his first dentist appointment and he did great.  He showed his teeth to the hygienist and the dentist.  He liked brushing the teeth of the stuffed dinosaur and even got to choose a rubber ducky at the end of his appointment.  The dentist wasn't worried about the chipped tooth - it just adds character, I guess.

After his appointment we went to visit Bill and Carol.  They are going to be grandparents in November, so they were taking good notes on having a grandson!
Showing Bill his favorite book.

Rockin' in the toddler chair - it fits him perfectly!

The bench that Bill built!

I can't get over what a little boy LWK has become.

Toddler Park

It was so fun to get together with our Parent/Baby Group friend!  I love that the kiddos are starting to play together!
Hey guys, what's up?

These woodchips are great!

The boys were like little old men figuring out how this spinner worked.

16 Months Old

What an explosion of skills in the last month!

Now that he is walking, it sure is hard to keep him on the carpet!
  • Weight:  23.5 lbs
  • Height:  32ish inches
  • Clothes Size:  18 month (with adjustable waists if possible)
  • Shoe Size:  5.5/6 - he grew out of size 5s in less than 2 months!  We bought some pricey Stride Rites the second week of June and he has already grown out of them!
  • Diaper Size: 4
  • Teeth:  7.5 (due to that silly chipped one) but he keeps working on those molars
  • Sleep:  Through the night from about 8:30pm - 7:30am, one long afternoon nap for about 2 hours
  • Food:  He LOVES blueberries.  He also likes to pretend to eat with a fork and spoon and can stab food with the fork.  BUT when he gets the food, he uses his other hand to take it off and put it in his mouth!
  • Movement:  We have a walker, finally!  He is also liking to imitate what we do - eat with a fork and spoon, brush his hair, brush his teeth...
  • Toys:  He is loving those cars as well as stacking and sorting toys.  He can dribble/kick a ball and throw it overhand remarkably well.  We need to work on catching it now.  He got a baby doll this month - a "My First Cabbage Patch Kid" that is sweet and jingles.  He likes to hug it and pat his back.  It was nearly impossible to find a baby doll for a boy!  The name on his tag was "River," but we just call him "Baby" right now.
  • Books:  He has finally fallen in love with books.  His favorites are 'The Little Blue Truck Leads the Way,"  "Hand, Hand, Finger, Thumb," "Goodnight Gorilla" and "Canada 1, 2, 3."  We put some in his crib and when he wakes up he loves to look through them!
Loving his books!
  • Words:  He still isn't talking much but says mama, dada, yeah, da, baba...  He is starting to put different syllables together.  Now that he has figured out walking, he seems to be concentrating more on talking.
  • Highlights of the past month:  Walking!  Giving Hugs!  The Swimming Pool!  And the bittersweet one - not wanting to be rocked to sleep anymore.
