Happy Birthday Grandpa!

LWK's (almost) birthday buddy, Grandpa, is 75 today!  As the bottle of wine the Keatons gave to him, he is aged to perfection.

King of the Grill.
The boys were happy to help Grandpa blow out his candles.

Happy birthday, Grandpa and Dad - you're a classic and we love you!

The family got together to celebrate my dad's 75th birthday on Saturday.  These cousins are so fun together!

LWK has started to mug for the camera instead
of yell at the Momarazzi.

JRK sticks his tongue out when he is
concentrating - just like his Mommy.

The boys were going to play hide and seek,
but both LWK and JAK wanted to count!

LWK finally got the idea to hide with JAK counted!
The boys were send outside to get their wiggles out!

The porch is now their stage!
JRK kept seeing the airplanes!
LWK likes running around crazy.

And, of course, chase each other in circles.
Then Grandma gave the boys balloons!

These three are like stairsteps and so funny together, especially now that all three of them can RUN!

Costco Ice Cream

When I went to pick up my glasses this week at Costco, it happened to be 70 degrees and beautiful.  We celebrated with a little froyo in the food court.  Poor LWK doesn't understand why I won't let him hold the cup.  If I did, Mom wouldn't get to even taste the yumminess!

The Bite

Our daycare mom sent me a text message yesterday saying that LWK was bitten at daycare.  This is all I had to go on:

He was bitten on the back, right at his love handle (if the boy had an ounce of fat on him).  LWK was the second victim of the biter in less than the week.  I panicked a little because the photo sure looks a lot worse than it is in real life and blood had been drawn.  I did email our doctor, who advised we just clean it well and put some antibiotic ointment on it.  I asked our daycare mom if she wanted me to come over, her response was this photo:

Yep, once he has some trains, all is right in the world!

The bite is much better today, but it is sore and he whimpers if we touch it.  I guess the biter (who is old enough to know better) is going to find a different daycare situation....  LWK has been super cuddly and happy, so obviously he isn't traumatized.

Here is a pic of the bite 24 hours later - it is going to be a big bruise that will probably last for a while.  On the way home we were going through the people who were his friends at daycare and he left the biter off his list.  When I asked about him, LWK said "no, he not my friend, he mean!"  I guess that settles it....

The Family Photos

I try to have some nice photos taken around LWK's birthday each year so that we can remember what he looked like at that age.  Last year, I just did some neat ones in our backyard that I consider his 2 year photos.  For his first birthday, we had our last baby panel photos done.  This year, I decided to take advantage of a few gift certificates that I had from Neyssa Lee's photography class and winning her contest in January.  I gave you a sneak peak a week ago, but here are all the photos.  I couldn't be happier with the results!

I always stress so much about photos - what to wear, if my hair will be okay, if I will regret how I look in general....  I remember when we were getting ready for our wedding photos, J and I just wanted to have ONE good photo of the day, and we got many more than that.

Going into this photo session, I wanted a nice family photo and a great one of LWK.  We just got our photos from Neyssa, and she captured far more than the two I had hoped for.  She so perfectly captured our little family - exactly 6 years after we got many great photos at our wedding!  I love that our imperfections are even perfectly us.  Enjoy the photo bomb of our little family!

Doughnuts: The Tradition Has Begun

A tradition begins once you do it two times in a row, right???

After a birthday party this morning, we headed into town to get doughnuts at Top Pot again.  LWK is loving this tradition, and so are we!

I love his wide range of emotions as he is eating his doughnut!

Teachers are notorious for not blowing their own horns.  I can't tell you how many times I have received a compliment about how good my band or orchestra sounds or how well they did at a contest and I respond with "the kids have really worked hard," or "they have really come together as an ensemble."  I never can just say "thank you" and take some credit for myself and the hard work I do each and every day as a teacher.  And then THIS happened:

I feel honored.  I work hard and it is nice to be recognized for that work I do.  And my students work really hard too!

Driving, Part 2

The day after his driving inquiry, this is the picture I received from our daycare mom!

I guess he (and his buddies) get to live out their fantasies of driving when the sun shines!

Conversations With My (almost) 3 Year Old

On the way home from work, this was my conversation with LWK:

"Mommy, can you teach me?"
"Of course I can teach you, what do you want to learn?"
"Mommy, can you teach me to drive the car?"
"Um, sorry hon, not for about 13 more years.  Or at least not until your feet reach the pedals and you can see over the steering wheel."

See how he is as far up in the seat possible?
I think he was trying to reach the pedals.
And then he discovered my hazard flashers and his little mind was blown!

St. Patrick's Day

My camera focus was messed up tonight (I figured out what I had messed up and it is fixed!), but I had to capture tonight.  J came home early so I could go to band practice and he brought LWK a shamrock cookie.  Of course, it was a hit!  I love how close and cuddly they are!

The Anniversary and Doughnuts

Today is our 6th anniversary and it was jam packed!  We have been trying to have a good weekend day of weather to get family photos done and since it wasn't supposed to rain until after noon, we kept our fingers crossed and the weather held for us.  It started sprinkling just as we were leaving the park!  I can't wait to see the results of our session, but here is a preview from the great Neyssa Lee Photography!

Luke was pretty snuggly and cooperative for the pictures, especially since he isn't a huge fan of having his photo taken (thanks to his Momarazzi mother).  I am excited to see the rest.  It was so nice to have Neyssa take our photos, she is chatty and it was comfortable.  I love her style - I don't feel like we need to be super-posed or perfect and she is great at capturing families just as they are right now.  What great memories!

After the photo session, we hit up the Top Pot doughnuts in Issaquah.  I didn't realize there was one there, but it is in a funky little building that (in our 7 years here) has been a Mexican restaurant, a burger joint, a teriyaki place and a coffee shop.  The building has a cool retro vibe to it with a funky roof.  Top Pot has made it into a drive through and I think this is a good fit for the place.  And it helps satisfy our doughnut cravings!

We brought our doughnuts home and LWK LOVED them!  He even requested more doughnuts as a nighttime snack (sorry kiddo)!

After the doughnuts, I headed out to an eye appointment (my glasses have too strong of a prescription, no wonder I was having trouble with them!) and made it home for a quick house pick up before the grandparents came to take care of LWK while J and I went out to dinner!

J had some gift certificates from work for Daniel's Broiler.  We have always gone to the Bellevue location (partially because we went there the night we got engaged), but it was already booked.  I didn't realize that its original location is an old boat house on Lake Washington in the Medrona/Leschi neighborhood.  The food is still amazing, but instead of counting cranes and looking at buildings, we get to look at the city of Bellevue across the lake, cars on I-90, the water, boats and mountains!  I think this will be our new favorite spot for steak, if for no other reason, because the chandelier is amazing!

And then we all crashed by 10!

The Flower

LWK just can't control himself with the daffodils that have popped up in the backyard.  He gets in close to sniff them, then he wants to see how soft they are, then he pops the top off!  I hope I have some flowers left in the backyard next time I leave him to his own devices back there!
