The Package

Grammie and Grampie sent a package to Luke and it was filled with super fun stuff and adorable clothes!

The first thing LWK found was this catalogue of Thomas trains - he loved looking through it and naming all the trains!

He got two musical trains - Victor and a Caboose!  Victor talks, the caboose plays the Thomas song.  he loves holding them up to his ear to listen (and woohoo for things that make noise not scaring him as much)!

And this was the most exciting thing - a LeapPad!  LWK and J had fun playing with it.  So far, LWK likes writing the letters and reading the Thomas interactive books we downloaded.  It is nice to have my phone back when we are out and about!

Thanks Grammie and Grampie for such a fun surprise!

This Week At Daycare: The Oompa Loompa

Our daycare mom has been sending lots of photos late - she even chose her new phone based on the quality of the camera.  It is so fun to get little updates throughout the day with what he is up to!

His new favorite color is orange!  Check out his foot - I have an Oompa Loompa for a son!

The Garden: 2014 Edition

It has been a few years since we have had a garden.  Actually, I don't think we have had once since LWK was born.  It just seemed so overwhelming to try to keep plants alive and safe at the same time as trying to keep a kid alive and safe.....

But this is our year!  I figured LWK is big enough to think it is fun to play in the dirt and old enough to understand that he needs to let the plants grow.  We will see how that goes!  If nothing else, this will be a fun experiment this summer!

Digging!
Making a mountain of dirt!
The seeds go here!
Then we moved to our side yard boxes that don't get tons of light.  Thankfully he is comfortable sitting between the planters to mix the compost and dirt!  This is where we like to plant lettuce - I can't wait for the yummy fresh salads this summer!

It's like a perfect little seat for him!

He gets his gracefulness from his mom :)
He loves to walk right between the two planters!
Then he found that the chives have flowered.  They really are pretty, purple flowers!

It feels good to have them planted and I am glad LWK enjoyed it.  Hopefully this summer we will have tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, radishes, zucchini, green beans and a pumpkin!  I also got a rhubarb plant - hopefully there will be some yummy strawberry rhubarb pie next year!

Memorial Day 2014

We have had a pretty laid back weekend - which I think we all needed.  We have stuck close to home and relaxed and rejuvenated.  This morning LWK and I played and relaxed.  I love how intense  and joyful he is when he is coloring.  I will never get tired of taking photos of his concentration.

And then he catches me taking his photo and I get this look:

And then there is random silliness, like when Mommy turns into "Robot Mommy" and LWK goes laughing and shrieking toward Daddy!

Such a sweet boy.  I am so lucky...

Family Playdate

We had a fun afternoon with the Morks today.  Not many pictures, but the kids were sure excited to get to play together and play (and so were the adults).  As soon as I told LWK that AGM was coming over, he said "AGM LOVES trains!"  Um, yeah, sure.  I think she is just nice and knows that if she wants to play with you, trains will be involved...

Unfortunately it was the rainiest day of the weekend, not just the usual drizzle of Seattle, but actual rain. I grilled burgers under an umbrella and we were cooped up inside.  The kids got about 15 minutes into Frozen before moving on.

Although my plans for playing outside with the new bean bag toss and maybe having a picnic in the back were foiled, it sure was fun to get together.  In a few weeks, our playdates will be weekly for the summer!

Daddy Kisses

J was getting LWK ready this morning and LWK grabbed his face to give him kisses.  I love these boys so much.

Buddies

I love that these boys are friends at daycare and in the real world too.  It comes in handy for their moms too.  Especially on the Friday before Memorial day weekend when this mom knows that the usual 30 minute commute will be over an hour if were were lucky since people are trying to get out of town!  The Chinese food, train track playing, chicken dancing, robot walking and Elmo/Cookie Monster loving while watching Caillou were all just a bonus!

DQ Date

It isn't really hot, but K and I thought it would be fun to have a Mommy/Son DQ Double Date after school.  It is especially fun to see these boys tackle ice cream!

Painting!

Again, thank goodness that our daycare mom embraces messes!

Somehow LWK didn't get one speck of paint on his new Hanna shirt.  Blood from his never healing elbow injury, yes, but not paint!

Also, when he writes and colors he uses his right hand but when he paints he uses his left????  Maybe a switch hitter down the road?

Whidbey Island Weekend

My folks are spending a few weeks in their favorite place - Whidbey Island!  They stay in their little trailer and when we go up, we stay in a hotel (we love the IDEA of being out-doorsy, but it just isn't us!).  We drove up on Saturday morning and the weather forecast was for rain.  We ended up lucking out the and weekend was BEAUTIFUL!

On the way to the island - Family Selfie!

Picking flowers for Mommy (Grandma helped)!
Checking out the beach with Daddy.

I love how dad is looking at mom :)

Playground!
Running on a shake- shake bridge!

What trip to Whidbey would be complete without a trip to DQ?

We had such a fun day with mom and dad (Grandma and Grandpa).  We headed back to the hotel and we all crashed.  On Sunday we were on our own and decided to check out Fort Ebey State Park!

There were hiking trails that were perfect for imperfect shoes!
We checked out the gun battery.  It was dark and echo-y and a little creepy.  When I got home, all the photos I took in the dark looking toward the light had a strange green light that went from a ball to a long thin column that appeared to be moving through the wall.  I changed the one below to black and white, but if you ever want to get freaked out with me, ask me to show the photos to you next time you are over!  J didn't think they were at all paranormal, maybe I have just watched too many scary TV shows....

I love the silhouette!
LWK was pretty cuddly this weekend, I don't mind!
After the hike and gun battery, we headed to the beach!

Working on a sand turtle!
Pat the daddy!
Checking out the boats!
What a fun weekend!  It went far smoother than our weekend trip to Bellingham in February, thank goodness!  It was nice to get away, recharge and enjoy being our little family!

Egg Rolls?

LWK is a pretty picky eater.  Rarely does a veggie or a meat pass his lips.  I think he could live on PB&J (thank goodness he didn't inherit dad's allergy), Mac and a Cheese (his words, not mine), Pancakes, Quesadillas, grapes and bananas.  I know this is probably my fault since I was so very careful about the foods he got when he was little because I was so afraid of allergies.

On Friday one of my students brought me still warm, homemade by his mom, egg rolls that were AMAZING.  I couldn't NOT eat them on the way home.  I asked LWK if he wanted one, he said no.  But then he asked if he could try it (be still my heart)!  I took a bite and gave him the other half and figured he would put it to his lips and hand it back.  Instead, he took a big bite and said "YUM!"  Then asked for another.  And another.

So next time I go grocery shopping, I might try to get some egg rolls to make at home and see if he will eat them again.  I won't hold my breath, they probably have to be my student's mom's special super secret recipe!
