Hillbilly Baby Part 2

Remember when I accused little LWK of being a hillbilly baby back in February?  Well, he really is one now - he chipped one of his teeth!  I thought I noticed it last night when I was forcing a toothbrush in his mouth as he clamped down so tight I thought I needed a crow bar to get in brushing his teeth.  But it was late and a bit dark and I thought I was just being crazy.  Alas, this morning I got a good look and a feel of the sharp bugger and called 1) Grandma and Grandpa to see if they have noticed it over the weekend; 2) J to ask if he thought I was crazy; and 3) the dentist to make sure I didn't need to schedule oral surgery or something.

Grandma and Grandpa hadn't noticed anything, so of course this happened on my watch.  J looked it up on the internet while I was crying and said that 1 in 4 kids chip a baby tooth.  The receptionist at the dentist's office said "let me guess, he is teething and learning to walk."  Bingo.  She said as long as it isn't painful to him or discolored, it should be fine and also put a note in his file for when we are at the office on Thursday.  I guess it was good I had made his first dental appointment just to have him checked out over a month ago!

Really, it isn't so horrible looking, but I still feel bad.  He has only had these teeth for about 7 months and already messed them up!  I guess it will just be a mystery about how he did it - there were no big spills or corn nuts over the past couple of days.  He must have done it chewing on a toy or his crib or maybe even by grinding his teeth together (yes, that is on the list to talk to the dentist about too).  I am looking forward to seeing how the dentist makes him open his mouth for more than 2 seconds.  I should probably take notes...

Vegas, (Without) Baby

In the past (almost) 16 months we have only had a few nights away from LWK.  We are lucky that Grandma and Grandpa are willing to have this energetic little boy spend the night occasionally!  This weekend J and I went to Vegas for our friend's vow renewal at the Las Vegas sign.  It was the first tiem we spent 2 nights away from LWK!   I didn't realize how much we were going to miss him - every time we saw a toddler we started talking about LWK and wondering what he was doing!  We were glad we didn't take him since it was so very hot (107 degrees)!

The First Olympics!

This is LWK's first Olympics!  I think he has the Olympic spirit, do you???

The Park

We met up with Becky and AGM our usual park in Bellevue today.  Last summer, LWK was content to lie under the trees and look at the leaves and take naps.  This year, he wants to play!  I still can't get used to him walking everywhere!
Our little cowboy - making sure his hat is on tight!
Lovin' the rocking horse!
He liked the woodchips more than the slide or swing!

The Pool

Today we had a great time at a swimming pool!  This was quite a surprise since LWK  HATED the ocean so much in May.  The librarian at our school offered up the clubhouse at her cabin to the moms and kids she knew.  We went over with Kaisa and her baby boy MMH and had so much fun!  LWK has no fear of the water, which scares me to death.
Yes, he is starting to run!
He didn't just want to dip his toes in - he was ready to jump.
MMH and LWK - Swimming buddies!
Lovin' the water!
He didn't even mind his face getting wet!
All tuckered out and chillin' with the ladies!

Poulsbo Day Trip

We took a little day trip to Poulsbo on Saturday.  A former coworker's mom was getting rid of a whole bunch of "vintage" computer equipment and Jer just couldn't pass on the Amiga that will help him relive his childhood!

We took the ferry over and it was a beautiful day to see the skyline and the new wheel!
Gosh Seattle is a pretty city.

I think the rain makes us appreciate days like this!

Mr. Smiley!

Mom's keys are FASCINATING!

Once in Poulsbo, we had to make some tourist stops in this Norwegian town.
At Sluys Bakery.  Yes, we got a Viking doughnut.

The two vikings of the family with our ship!

With the viking statue!

Walking with Daddy!

Did you know that Chief Sealth (the Chief that Seattle is named for) is buried on Bainbridge Island?  We saw a little sign on the way into Poulsbo and decided to stop on the way back out.  It is in this little cemetery that is part of the Catholic Mission Church.
There are these great little benches shaped like Native American ships (and a lot like the Viking ships too).

These beautiful cedar carvings flanked his gravestone.

He converted to Catholicism and took the name Noah.

Cousin Love

LWK and I went and visited Aunt Julie and cousins Joel and James on Friday.  The older boys had so much fun together.  Joel was very good about sharing his toys and being patient with LWK.  LWK was curious about everything Joel was doing and had fun imitating and playing with his big cousin.  Baby James was content chillin' in his bouncy seat or being held and loved on.  It is so much fun to watch these boys grow up together!

Hey LWK, sippy cups are cool!

No more monkeys jumpin' on the bed!

Like my tunes?

Future golfer.

Sweet and happy baby James.

15 Month Stats

LWK had his 15 month appointment this afternoon.  When I made the appointment, he was still taking a late morning nap and going strong the rest of the day, but now he has decided to become a normal toddler and take a nap at 1pm.  We had gone to toddler story time at the library and to Ikea, so he was pretty pooped by the time we got to his 1:30 appointment, but was still all smiles for Dr. G.

He weights 23lbs 8oz - he jumped into the 25th percentile from about the 10th percentile last time
He is 32 inches long - 70th percentile
His head circumference is 20 inches - 90th percentile

He got 2 shots today - he cried for about 10 seconds and then was fine.  Dr. G was impressed about how curious he was about how he opened up drawers and cupboards and then would experiment with how hard to close them, how to not get his fingers squished, etc.  He showed off his new walking skills (he even shimmied sideways for her) and some of his babbling.  He liked that her stool would spin!  She, like usual, thinks he is perfect and quite inquisitive.  She wasn't concerned about his lack of real words, he showed off taking directions from her "please take that to Mommy," and he complied.  She thinks he will be talking now that he has that whole walking thing down.  She said that we should have no worries about his cognitive development (gosh, those are good words to hear).  The adage seems to be holding true for our little guy - girls are talkers and boys are walkers.

As a side note, she had looked at his recent x-rays of his chest and she said that she would never have known that he had pneumonia!  Hopefully his lungs stay that way, oh, let's say, for the rest of his life!

Pretending

It seems like LWK is doing multiple new things every day.  He now can kick a soccer ball (watch out David Beckham), do the "swishing" of the wipers on The Wheels on the Bus and he is starting to pretend play.  He took this Ikea tunnel, that collapses into a hoop, and was using this like a boat or a car or SOMETHING.  He would put things in and rock or push or spin it around him.  He had a grand time.  How lucky are we that he is finding ways to entertain himself!

Is it a car?
Is it a boat?
Is it a flying saucer?

The Tim Bit Bandit

On our last day in Canada, we had stopped and gotten some Tim Bits.  We had left them on our bed at the hotel and as we were getting ready to go out to dinner, someone decided he needed a little snack before we headed out:

Walking

I love to watch LWK get more and more confident walking.  It hasn't taken long for him to be able to easily turn around too!  Now he is experimenting with walking backwards, but still needs to be holding on to mom or dad's finger to execute that skill!

The Pillows

Somebody just loves pillows.  Especially when they are king sized in a fancy hotel room.

Lake Louise and Moraine Lake

On our trip back from Grammie and Grampie's home, we decided to stop in Banff and enjoy the Canadian Rockies a bit.  J and I had been to Lake Louise when we were dating when he was took me to be vetted meet  his parents.  We thought it was so pretty, we wanted to go back this time.  We were even able to stay in the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise this time!

We even stopped at Moraine Lake on our way to Banff.  We loved it there - the water was so blue, the mountains were beautiful and the whole area was far calmer than Lake Louise.
The mountains, the water, the trees - just beautiful...
I never can get a photo of all three of us actually looking at the camera anymore.
Before we go back on the road, we had a snack to tide us over.  Mommy got to have a cider and chocolate croissant.  This is the life!
Don't worry the cider was just for Mommy....

I Feel Pretty...

LWK has started to imitate everything we do from eating with a fork (he can actually stab things and get them in his mouth now!) to brushing his hair!

Grammie and Grampie

Dear Grammie and Grampie,

Thank you for such a fun time when Daddy, Mommy and I visited.  I especially loved practicing my new skill of walking.  Thank goodness Grammie was willing to walk with me where ever I wanted to go!

Love,
LWK

The Choreographer

LWK has started to do the hand motions for the songs we sing!  He has started to roll his hands for "The Wheels on the Bus" as well as open his arms for the doors and throws his hands up for the people going up and down.  For "All the Fish" he loves to clap his hands for the bubbles popping.  He gets too excited to wait until the pop at the end, so he keeps clapping!

Canadian Heat Wave

It is super hot and humid here in Edmonton, so we are just trying to beat the heat.
Playing on the cool hardwoods in the AC at Grammie and Grampie's house.

Eating frozen peas on the countertops.
Today we went to breakfast at Cora's - a delicious place that serves crepes with beautiful and yummy fruit.  LWK enjoyed bites of our food, especially the grapes and french toast.

He got a balloon and it made his day!
We went to the Telus World of Science since it was air conditioned and it was nice to get out of the house.  LWK was pretty tired, but he did like that he could make a tornado all by himself!  Right after this, he totally crashed for the rest of the time at the science center.
The button was at the perfect height for a 15 month old!

I love that he is looking up at it to see what happens when he pushed the button.
We had dinner at Mikado's with Grammie, Grampie, Uncle Josh and Aunt Steph.  We were seated in a private room with a floor table and LWK had a blast crawling around to everyone, eating rice and edemame.

Uncle Josh's arms are tired since LWK LOVES to be lifted up in the air by him since he can go soooo high!
