Funny Things My 3 Year Old Says: Trip Or Treat!

I was a little worried about how trick or treating would go this year.  Last year, LWK wanted nothing to do with the insanity of being a trick or treater that overtakes our little town on Halloween night.  He much preferred answering the door and handing out candy.

This year I had been prepping him a bit and our friends, the Hammondses, would be coming over to join us.  MMH was Emmit from the Lego movie and LWK, of course, was Thomas the Train.

The boys had a fun time knocking on the doors and getting candy and even picked up, quite quickly, that you don't go to houses that don't have their lights on!

LWK was so cute.  He couldn't quite get the "k" on "trick," so when a door was answered, he would say "trip or treat!"  He also was great at remembering to say thank you and Happy Halloween!  We just went around our little block, but it was the perfect amount of houses for the little dudes!

We came back to the house and the boys had mac and a cheese, of course, and watched The Great Pumpkin!  A perfect All Hallows Eve in my opinion!

LWK loved looking at all his "treats" when we got home!  He isn't as interested in eating them as he in counting them!

The Thomas-O-Lantern

LWK had a bit of a fever this morning, so J stayed home with him until noon and I came home from work and spent the afternoon with him.  He was calm and cuddly and sweet, so it was a pretty easy sick day for me!  We hadn't gotten our pumpkin carved yet, so I looked online to get ideas and decided on a Thomas jack-o-lantern.  LWK was on board with the idea when I showed him, but as soon as I started carving it, he wanted nothing to do with the pumpkin or its insides!

LWK was happy to play with his Play Doh!

And gave me this "threenager" look when I asked if he wanted to help.

I thought it turned out pretty cute - I even carved the 1 on the side!

After being cooped up all day, I think LWK was most excited to get to go out on the front porch.
The fresh air did us both good, it's not every day you get to go outside in your jammies!

The Aquarium!

LWK and J went to the Aquarium with Grammie and Grampie today.  LWK loved the fish and was quite the runner - he loved the ramps and the tunnels and and going back and forth between the tanks!

One of the few that aren't the back of his head!
The touch tank with Grampie!

There were pumpkins floating in the tanks!

LWK found Nemo!
LWK is captivated!
They all had a wonderful time and LWK even napped in the car!  It must have been all that running around!

Mmmmmm, Milk!

It's J's birthday and I have a concert tonight, so the whole family met at my school and we went out to dinner.  LWK loved his milk!  The concert was a bit too loud for him, he only made it through the first song, but it was fun to have him there!  Every time I walked by he would say, "Hi, Mommy!" and the audience and my students would giggle.  It was pretty sweet.  Afterwards we went out for ice cream and Baskin and Robbins - yum!

I love the funny expressions that LWK makes, and those blue eyes are just to die for!

I think, aside from the ice cream, that LWK would say the best part of the day was banging on the drums and xylophones in mommy's classroom!

Puzzle Help!

Grammie and Grampie are visiting from Canada and LWK is loving every second of the loves and attention that he is getting!

Blockhead!

Every time I go to put these blocks away that LWK has outgrown, he becomes fascinated with them again!

Cozy

I was working around the house this morning and LWK was watching Thomas (of course).  I went to check on him and this is how cozy he was:

I love that he is spooning with my big bear, his Ted E Bear, froggie pillow and cozy blanket.  I don't think he could have been more comfy and cozy if he tried!

Our First Family Movie Night

LWK doesn't really have a long attention span (unless it is for Thomas or playing trains), but we thought we would give watching a movie a go tonight.  He has a Finding Nemo game on his LeapPad that he loves and last summer, I found ONE copy of Finding Nemo at Costco and snatched it up.

We had a long day running errands and once we got home and cozied up, we popped Nemo into the BluRay player.  LWK was captivated for about the first 20 minutes, which is far better than the 5 minutes that he was interested in Frozen!  He did like seeing Nemo and the Sea Star and, thankfully, didn't seem scared at the parts that I thought were a little harrowing.  We probably won't do this every weekend, but it was fun to give it a try!  Maybe next weekend we will watch The Great Pumpkin!

I think he may have just been into it for the popcorn!

Mommy/Son Double Date

We headed to Menchie's for a Mommy/Son double date today.  The best part about this place is that there is a chalk board that keeps the boys entertained so the mommies can chat!  These two have such a sweet bromance - I am so glad they are able to be buddies at daycare and in real life too!

Last Swim Class

LWK has made real progress in swim class this session.  His behavior improved DRAMATICALLY over the course of the last five weeks, thank goodness.  I still contest that if the class didn't begin with splashing the teacher, he would have had more self control.  Of course that is speaking as a teacher with 15 years of experience and not a 17 year old kid who did a great job with lots of busy boys in his class!

LWK is able to float on his back with some assistance, put his face in the water to blow bubbles, crawl in and out of the pool and jump in only holding one hand (finger) or his teacher.  He also knows that he needs to be careful in the pool and listen to directions.  I think having RESPECT for the water is what I most wanted him to gain this summer, and he did do that.  We will be repeating the Pre-1 class, probably a few more times.  I will wait to enroll him when the weather warms up and it isn't dark at 4pm, so next summer!  Hopefully we can get two or three sessions in.  I bet he will amaze me with what he can do at four and a half.

And at the end of each session, the kids get their report cards and a sucker.  This is LWK's first Tootsie Pop!  He wasn't too sure about the surprise in the center!

The Pumpkin Patch 2014

This might be our last weekend of dry-ish weather, so we headed to the pumpkin patch today.  It is the same place we went last year, we like that you get to have a tractor ride out to the pumpkin patch and it is pretty low key.  LWK is finally at an age where he is remembering what we did last year, so when we told him that we were going to the pumpkin patch, he asked if we were going to ride the tractor again!  I think this means that Jubilee Farms will be our family tradition.

Riding out the the patch
"I like this one!"  He patted every pumpkin he saw.
He really want to pick up a pumpkin.
And with a little help from dad.....
...was successful!!!
The great pumpkin!
Thomas boots!
This was the biggest hit - the wheelbarrow.
Mom helped steer.
And he did pick out a"little pumpkin" too!
A fun and perfect day with the guys!  Bring on Halloween!

Canadian Thanksgiving 2014

We had my folks and sister's family over for a little Canadian Thanksgiving celebration for J today.  LWK was so excited to play with his cousins and talked about it all day!  The best part was  watching the boys eat caramel apples!

It was a messy and fun family evening!  It is funny how much the boys look like each other!

Future Tattoo Artist?

LWK likes to take advantage of the situation when we are getting ready for a party.  Remember this when he wasn't even a year old?  This time he decided to use his blue marker all over himself.  Thank goodness it is washable marker.  I am beginning to see why my mom says she NEVER let my sister or I use markers until we got to be school age!

The Little Mathematician

LWK is getting to be really interested in numbers lately, much to his engineering dad's delight!  Lately, he LOVES 100, 200, 300...  So when he was playing with his Play-Doh this morning, he was practicing "pressing" his numbers.  200 was his favorite!

LWK was sick last night, so we stayed close to home today doing all the fun stuff like steam cleaning the carpet in his room.  I did catch this sweet little moment of LWK and J working on a 48 piece puzzle!!!!  It just seems like yesterday that he was working on matching puzzle pieces to pictures (okay, it probably was yesterday since he still likes those types of puzzles) and now he actually can see the "big picture!"
