2 Months Old

LWK at One Month Old...

and LWK at 2 Months Old!

It is hard to believe that LWK is going to be 2 months old on Wednesday. I really can't say where the time has gone, but J and I have been trying to soak up every minute. It is amazing how much LWK has changed. When we brought him home, we were still dealing with his jaundice and had to wake him to feed him. A trip to the emergency room and a visit with his doctor got him back on track, but it was still a bit scary as new parents to have a baby who didn't care to eat!

Over the past 2 months I have realized how all encompassing a baby can be. I feel so lucky to have a job that I can stay at home with him through the end of the school year and through the summer. He will be almost 5 months old when I drop him at daycare for the first time. The thought makes me so sad that I will miss out on milestones. I keep being frustrated with living in a country that likes to talk about family values, but only allows women 6 - 8 weeks of maternity leave. I am certain I wouldn't be able to return to work today (the end of my official maternity leave) without falling apart. LWK and I are just getting a groove on!

LWK has met many of his milestones over the past 2 months. He has been holding his head up since the beginning and is showing more control every day. He loves to look at people's
faces and stares at the owl mobile above his bassinet. In the past week, he has started to smile at us! It is so rewarding to have an interaction with him that is positive and to see that he is picking up on social cues. He even has Mom's dimple!

This week we are taking a trip to visit the Midwest. It will be LWK's first plane trip. Once we get there, I am sure he will be loved on by all the great aunts and great uncles. He will love every minute of it!

A Budding Critic?

Yesterday was our first cultural experience as a family. We headed south to see the Norman Rockwell exhibit at the Tacoma Art Museum.

Memorial Day weekend seemed like a good time to delve into some classic Americana.

In classic style, LWK slept the entire time.

This was in stark contrast to when we saw Picasso when he was in utero and kicked the whole time!

Maybe he appreciates cubism more than realism.

The Smile - Finally Captured!

Aunt J and Cousin J came to visit us yesterday. LWK got lots of loves and we finally caught a REAL smile on camera! Aunt J is now going to be known as "The Great Chin Tickler" around our house. Obviously LWK loves it!

The tickle..

The thinking...

The smile!

A Busy 10 Months

I realized today how long it has been since I posted on my blog. This time I really do have a good excuse - I was cooking a baby! The pregnancy was a little shaky at first. Once we got past a few bumps in the road, it was pretty smooth sailing until the end. I felt good and was healthy for the whole 9 months. It wasn't until the last week that I started getting really tired and feeling super pregnant. Funny how that happens when you are on your feet all day as a teacher! Thank goodness I had great, understanding students and colleagues this year. They were all willing to overlook the days that I had to "call in pregnant." Here we are 2 weeks before I delivered!

We welcomed LWK on April 1, 2011 at 7:11pm. He weighed 6lbs,15.9oz and was 19.5 inches long. He made his debut a week earlier than expected. Although we didn't know it at the time, he was playing with his umbilical cord and making
his heart rate decelerate. This made us all nervous and the doctor induced me and 36 hours later called for a C-section. In the end this little munchkin arrived smaller and sooner than expected, but healthy! We are sure he will have many more pranks to play on us with a little luck thrown in!

We feel so blessed for this little guy. His personality is shining though and we are enjoying every minute of being his parents! More posts to follow as this new adventure unfolds!
