Swim Lessons

I love these big boy swim lessons where LWK listens and works hard.  And he is adorable, of course!

Raspberry Picking

It is insanely hot for Seattle, in the 90s.  We have enjoying picking berries the last few years and I was afraid the raspberries wouldn't make it another week if we didn't make the time to pick them now.  We got together with the Hammonds family and picked berries, sweated like crazy and got filthy!  The final reward was our kiddie pool set up for us to splash and get cleaned up a bit when we got home!  A great time was had by all and the raspberries were delish!

Edited to add the traditional crazy dirty feet photo:

The Goose Egg

Poor LWK, he hasn't really had a head bonk that resulted in a goose egg in his 4 years, but he got one tonight.  We still aren't really sure what happened, but he came down on the corner of our ottoman and when he started crying and came over to me, he already had a pretty good bump.  Of course this all happened when it was bedtime, so we kept him up a bit longer to make sure he didn't have a concussion or something (he didn't).  Good thing his bangs are long enough to cover up the bump!

5 Summers

The Mork girls and we have had a tradition for the past five summers.  Every Wednesday in the summer (for the most part) we get together for playdates.  Back in 2011, we had babies who weren't really mobile yet.  LWK would lie on the blanket, all wrapped up his swaddle like a baby burrito and look at the leaves rustle in the breeze.  ERM was sitting and starting to crawl.  B and I thought being a mom was so hard with those little babies, little did we know how much more crazy it would get over the next few years.

Today was the inaugural playdate of our 5th summer as moms.  We met at our favorite park from those little baby days, had lunch under a tree and enjoyed the clouds and leaves while the kiddos played together.  We even had a conversation, with a beginning, middle and end!  What a wonderful day!

The Big Kid

We have seen such a change in LWK since he turned four - from potty training to being *thisclose* to reading - it has been pretty amazing to witness.  Today was a perfect example of the this maturity we are seeing.

First, I took him to daycare while I went to the doctor and ran a whole bunch of silly errands.  his daycare mom sent me a few pictures of him working on coloring a book and I was happy he was participating (instead of playing trains like he often does when everyone else is coloring or doing something he deems less exciting than trains).  When I picked him up, she told me he had sat and REALLY worked on using the right colors and on staying in the lines, two things that are quite fluid in his work right now.  He worked as long and as hard as the 5 year olds who were with him today!  This was the final product:

After daycare, we had swim class.  If you remember last year, LWK wasn't the best of students.  Sure, he liked the water but was horrid at listening to directions and doing what was asked of him.  Today was like a different kid was there.  Of course, I have been talking him through expectations for the last week about swimming, but when it came time to actually walk the walk, he did it!  We got to the pool and ran into a few people we know, but he marched right over to the bend and sat down, just like I had coached him.  He waited patiently for his name to be called, used walking feet and waited for his teacher to invite him into the water.  And when the lesson began, he LISTENED and did his best to do what his teacher asked him to do.  His execution wasn't perfect, but he TRIED and I am so proud!  This having a 4 year old thing kind of rocks!

Fathers Day

We celebrated Fathers Day a little early this year since we will have family in town tomorrow.  It was pretty low-key.  We got J a beard trimmer and then I had LWK answer questions about his Daddy:

I love that LWK thinks everyone's favorite food is Macaroni and Cheese.  Also, who knew that he knew the word statue????

Last Day of School 2015

Whew, we made it another year!  LWK was coordinated with his friend MMH in their Peanuts shirts for the last day!

Our friends the Marchands got a new backyard playset, so we went to check it out!  LWK loved the slide and is starting to actually pump his legs a bit on the swing!

And TEM has a drum set, so guess who was practicing to be the next Ringo???

Afterwards, we headed to Costco to pick up a few "no bake" dinner for this hot weather.  Churro and Leap Pad for the win!!!

The Game Changer

I've been working with LWK on this skill for the past year, pretty much since a good friend (shout out to the Mork family) said that her daughter had started folding the dish towels!  I am kind of a Jessica Simpson about laundry - I like to sort it and put it in the washer, but after that I lose interest and I absolutely DESPISE folding.  So much, in fact, that J does most of the folding of laundry anymore since it will sit in a big old pile until someone takes pity on it and me....

Anyway, J was folding towels and washcloths and guess who comes up and decides to actually HELP fold?  Yep, my kid who has refused to help me for the last year!  He took direction from J and even helped move the pile from the couch to the stairs!  I am just thrilled that he is starting to help!  Next up: matching socks and actually carrying the folded laundry UP the stairs!  Heck, I might go crazy and we will put it in drawers.  The possibilities are endless now that school is almost out!

Pre-Concert Dinner Date

Tonight is my last evening concert of the school year.  J usually meets us after school and we head to Taco Time (LWK likes the nuggets and the mexi fries are the only potato product he eats), but he was stuck in traffic, so LWK and I had dinner on our own.  It was a pretty big deal for me since it was the first time that I had LWK sit at a table while I ordered.  It wasn't busy and he was within my line of sight the whole time, but it was still a little nerve-wracking for me (but not for LWK, of course).

While we were waiting for food, I got this mildly interested look from LWK while I tried to capture the moment:

Oh, those blue eyes get me every time!  And J did finally make it to dinner - 5 minutes before I had to leave.  Better than nothing right????

First Sprinkler of Summer!

It has been crazy hot here in Seattle, so we turned on the sprinkler after school today!  LWK, of course, loved it!

The Get Well Car

My Dad fell and has been in the hospital.  LWK put his new-found artistic skills to work and made my dad a get-well car picture!
