Ridin' the Rails!

Last spring J found a deal to ride the train at the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad.  Actually, one of his co-workers with a little one found it and told him about it (thanks, Jessica)!

We opted to go on August 31st, the Sunday in the middle of the long weekend and it worked out perfectly to go with the Hammondes and have the boys all dressed up to ride the rails together!

LWK was opposed to covering up Elmo on his red shirt with his hickory overall when J dressed him that morning, but when I changed his diaper before we headed to the train, he was fine with me putting them on him!  I think it helped that MMH had his on too.  Unfortunately, LWK wet ALL THE WAY THROUGH his overalls less than an hour after I had changed him.  At least I got a few cute pics of him as a train engineer!

LWK's aversion to loud sounds has improved SO MUCH this year.  Instead of completely losing it, he just wants to be held as he looks suspiciously at whatever is making the loud noise that he doesn't like.  He occasionally throws in an "I want to go to the car!" or "I want to go home!" but is usually willing to tough it out.

And I can't complain TOO much when he wants to cuddle when he is upset.

Once we got on the train, all fears were gone!  He loved looking out the windows!

Can't you just hear him saying "Choo! Choo!!!!"

LWK and MMH loved watching all the "beautiful trees!"

At the end of the line, there is a locomotive museum that is set up like a logging camp.  It was really neat, but kind of loud.  LWK didn't like all the noise, so after doing a quick check, we got back on the train to head back.  Maybe in a few years it will be fun to go back and actually learn about all the different trains!

As a bonus, the clouds cleared on our way back to Elbe and we got to see Mt. Rainier!

Once we got back to Elbe, KEH and I had our picture taken in from of the little Lutheran Church.  It is only 18x24 feet!

All in all a fun day with the boys.  I will never get tired of seeing the wonder on LWK's face when he rides on a train.  Worth every penny!

One Last Sumer Play Date

We were able to squeeze one last play date into the summer with the Mork girls.  We were the lucky recipients of their gest passes of their local children's museum!

When we got to the museum, the kids all headed different ways.  LWK ended up in the far room where he liked sitting on the tractor and milking the cow (that farm boy gene runs deep).  That same area had a train set and LWK got REALLY upset because there was a train bully who kept taking any train that LWK had.  LWK was so upset that he started crying and saying he wanted to go home!

I convinced him that maybe we just needed to go downstairs and have a little snack.  On our way to find the downstairs we found a MUCH calmer area that had tents and Lincoln Logs and a way more chill vibe than the train/airplane/farm room did.

LWK had a great time climbing the logs and balancing on the balance beams.  They even had stick ponies and LWK rode around on one!

The girls found us and we headed to snack time.  I love how little ERM wants to sit up at the table with the big kids!!!

After snacks, we headed to the rooftop and LWK found the biggest slide to go down (of course).

There was also a whole music area and LWK had fun playing the large mellophones!  Look at that great technique at 3 years old!

It was pretty hot on the roof and I have just noticed this summer how flushed and sweaty LWK gets when he is hot.  He is having too much fun to slow down to cool off, so I feel like I need to really keep an eye on him.

There was also a big diffing area with fossils and a large dinosaur skeleton for the kids to play in.  LWK loved the digging!

Our parking time was almost up, so we came back inside and had a blast playing with the air pipes and scarves!  You put the scarves in the bottom and the air shoots them through the tunnels and they float down to be caught.  LWK was enthralled!

I also loved that this was something these three cuties could do together!

What a great summer of fun with the girls.  I can't believe how fast the time has gone since we were new moms sitting under nice big trees with babies swaddled (or at least not mobile) ruminating on what good friends they would become!

The Park

We got together with our Parent/Baby class friends today.  I didn't get any pics of the kids playing together (they all kind of did their own thing), but J and I got some sweet ones of LWK!

The Zoo

We kind of had a massive play date this Friday with Uncle Josh and Aunt Steph, Daddy, The Keatons AND the Morks at the Zoo!  It was a little crazy, but the adults weren't outnumbered!

LWK needed to show Teddy the penguins!
The Mork girls and their new wagon!
Almost the whole gang!
Aunt Julie is like the pied piper with the map!
LWK was kind of a grump for most of the day, but I did catch this sweet moment on the tractor!

Those sweet cousins!
Daddy, Uncle Josh and Aunt Steph with the elephant!

This is the first time LWK has drunk milk out of a carton without a straw!
Finally, this picture generally sums up how LWK felt about the day.  He was pretty grumpy and unhappy.  I'm not sure if it was because he was tired or overwhelmed or had to follow rules......

Brain Freeze

We had to take Uncle Josh and Aunt Steph to the Dairy Freeze to check out the ice cream!  LWK got his first brain freeze!

Checking out the old school Astroids game.  He has no idea what it is or what to do....

Loving on Uncle Josh.

Backseat Buddies

LWK likes having company in the back seat!

More Swimming!

LWK continues to do well in his swim lessons.  I just wish he would pay better attention to his teacher, but he gets distracted by getting to splash!

LWK is the only kid in his class who actually LIKES to float on his back!  I love that she sings little songs with them as she works with them individually!

The splashing never gets old!

Woohoo!  He finally jumped in!

*** Photography note:  These pics were taken with my little Lumix Point and Shoot camera!  I didn't want to haul around the big camera and I wanted to play with my P&S a little since I haven't taken the time to learn how to use it since I got it right before I took my DSLR class.  I LOVED how these pics turned out!  Of course, I don't think that I will use ti for those beautiful, close up portraits I like of LWK, but for an action packed class where LWK is far away????  Totally.  The zoom was great and the photos came out clearer than with by big lens on the DSLR.  I still think the 300mm lens will be great on a tripod, but for days like this, the Lumix is perfect!***

Blueberry Picking, Part 2

We went to the outlet mall on Monday and LWK was a trooper.  There were new pots and pans, lots of clothes and LeSportSac.  I am surprised he was still smiling at the end of this (probably because he could escape his stroller)!

Today we went to pick blueberries with Uncle Josh and Aunt Steph and the Hammondses!

In the end, LWK's favorite part was kicking up the dirt on the molehills!

The Visitors!

Uncle Josh and Aunt Steph are here for a visit this week!  LWK is thrilled (and so are we)!
