The Frisbee

We had a playdate with the Marchands today and the boys had a great time together.  Since they are both train lovers, we had no doubt.  It is also nice that they are getting big enough to play together and the moms can actually talk!

The boys had some outdoor time and LWK worked on throwing a frisbee.  He has a lot more work to do, like actually letting go of the frisbee, but he had a great time trying!

TEM is an old pro at the frisbee toss!

Something that I am not used to as a mom of a boy is the wrestling.  I know LWK didn't learn it from me, maybe daycare???  Anyway, LWK and TEM would hug, then fall down into a huge pile of pillows and wrestle around in fits of giggles that are impossible to capture in focus with a camera.  I love it since it really shows what a whirlwind they were together!

700!?!?!?!

Wow, 700 posts.  When I started this blog, I wrote a few entries - maybe some photos of trips and our wedding?  I don't even remember what I wrote about.  I really started KEEPING this blog when I had LWK and decided I needed to somehow keep a chronicle about our life as a family of three, I never thought I would have 700 things to say about our silly life.  I mean, come on, I was the kid who would be up all night before my journal project was due, making up entries for the past 3 months.  Of course, I used different colored ink and tried to change my handwriting to dupe my teachers.

This blog thing, however, has been far easier for me to keep up with.  Maybe it is because I find LWK fascinating?  Maybe I feel like I finally have something worth writing about?  Or maybe it is the practicality that I don't have to keep an actual baby book if I do this.  Whatever has kept me going, I am happy with the results.  Hopefully one day I will be able to turn this little blog into a book for LWK that chronicles his childhood.  That would be nice, huh?  It also sounds like a lot of work that I would have to cram into a summer break someday.

Thanks to those of you who read this (our family in the Great White North, friends in the UK, J's co-worker and my best mom friend), I hope you have enjoyed all these little vignettes and that I can keep it up for another 700 entries or more -  I plan to!

The Shake Shake Bridge

Pretty much every bridge we go over or under is a "shake shake bridge" according to LWK (and thanks to Thomas).  When he got done with swim lessons tonight, he found the "shake shake bridge" at the playground at the community center.  It was fun to watch him be so cautious and then get more and more confident as he played!

The Dentist Train

LWK had a dentist appointment this morning.  Leave it to him to find the one and only train in the whole play area.

He was a pretty happy guy while we were there, but he wouldn't let the hygienist for dentist into his mouth.  We will try again in 6 months...

Apple Season!

We took a little field trip over the mountains to get FRESH apples today!  We came home with apples and pears, but LWK liked the watermelons and pumpkins the best!  Oh yeah, and he rode in the big part of the cart, I guess our days of actually being able to put groceries in the cart while shopping are over...

Early Riser

LWK was up early this Saturday morning (of course he was, it was my weekend morning to get up with him and I am certain he will sleep late tomorrow when it is J's turn to get up early)!  He found this little owl box that originally held the thank you cards from his baby shower.  He has created a new use for it - a box for his trains.  Yes.  This is the PERFECT place to store Thomas and His Friends!

And I guess this whole getting up early thing isn't so bad with a cute little guy like LWK...

Dinner Date

I had Open House tonight at school so J came and met us for dinner and then took LWK home and got him to bed since it was going to be a late night for me.  LWK was determined to put those crayons back in their packet - I loved how careful he was (and how sweet and patient J was to help). I love these guys so much.

Swim Session 2

LWK started his next round of swim lessons.  I am no longer in the pool but I still get wet, how does that happen???  LWK is in a class with all little boys and a male teacher, which I think is great.  I just wish he was a bit better at following directions!

The teacher starts the lesson by letting the little boys throw water on him and splash him.

LWK isn't quite sure when to stop, so he ended up in time out...

But then he redeemed himself and did a good job of floating on his back!

And then they got to float on this raft to practice kicking!  LWK loved it!  In fact, I think it looks pretty fun too!

Hopefully LWK will be better behaved next week now that he knows his teacher and what the expectations are!

The Difference in Parenting

J and I have some differences in parenting.  LWK gets himself in this predicament and J goes to help and I grab the camera.

Birthday Cake!

We had to postpone my birthday celebration with my parents for about a week.  The German Chocolate Cake was worth the wait!

Haircut With a Side of Train Table

We haven't been very happy with LWK's haircuts at our local cheapo chop shop lately, so we decided to invest in a kid's haircut place and see if we were happier with the results.  LWK liked that there was a train table (of course).

And we were happy that the stylist was patient (stopping if LWK became upset) and kind and not at all annoyed with cutting the hair of a 3 year old.  We were also happy that LWK wasn't scalped like he has been for the last year...

Then we headed to brunch and LWK loved the big rock in front of Pomegranate - it's like a slide!

This summer we have been trying to figure out this nap thing.  If LWK takes a nap during the day, he won't go to sleep at night until 10 or after, so we have been suffering a long witching hour after about 5pm.  And then there are days where he just crashes in the stroller.

We met the Morks for a Caspar Babypants concert at the mall, but once LWK woke up, he was NOT happy.  We got the new CD from Caspar and headed home after a long day.

Oh yeah, and since he had a little snooze, he didn't go to bed until almost 11!!!

Last Backyard Pool Day

This summer has been a hot one for the Seattle area with an (almost) record breaking number of days that were over 80 degrees!  LWK has liked having a big pool in the yard this summer and getting to play and splash and cool off quite a few times on these hot days.  While I was working out, J sent me these pics of LWK probably getting his last pooltime of summer in!

In addition to splashing in the pool, LWK likes to make sure that St. Francis has water for his birdbath!

Funny Things My 3 Year Old Says: Seeing Stars

With school starting back up, there hasn't been much time for photos.  We are all just getting back in the groove.  Of course, there isn't a shortage of sweetness and funnies from LWK.  This morning he crawled into bed with us.  My pants had ridden up over my knee and he looked closely at my knee and said, " Mommy, I LOVE your knee!" and then laying his head on my shoulder, "Mommy, I LOVE your shoulder!" and finally, "Mommy, I LOVE all the STARS on your shoulder! You have so many BEAUTIFUL stars!!!!"  Who would have thought those freckles would still be stars to him!

Just Call Him LUBE

LWK's daycare assistant's last day is tomorrow and I asked if he wanted to sign the card we had gotten for her.  He was super excited, "I want to write L-U-K-E!!!!!"  So we were surprised when he decided that he wanted to draw a B instead of a K.  He wrote it VERY intentionally, "I want to write a B, not a K!"  So we gave her a card signed by LUBE:

And then he decided that he also wanted to write the word BLUE.  In green marker, just to be ironic.

You're a silly one, kiddo and we love you for it!

An Ordinary Life

On my 39th birthday I realize I am a bit behind on keeping my blog up to date and many other things in my life (laundry, cleaning, planning...). I ran across this little poem today that has me thinking about how leading an ordinary life of loving, mothering and teaching has been pretty extraordinary.
